Question: What is the shortest duration I can have a short code?

Answer: SMSGH's default mininum period for a new short code set-up is three calendar months. For premium short codes, beyond this period you will be required to constantly generate a minimum monthly volume of 1,000 messages to avoid suspension.

Question: How do I see or have access to messages that are sent to my assigned short code?

Answer: Every SMSGH account holder is given a portal with a username and password to access their messages. This allows you to view all incoming messages and see your pending total revenue in real-time. You may also connect directly to our gateway via our APIs to receive your messages.


Question: How do you differentiate between my account and that of another on a shared short code?

Answer: The shared short code requires the use of a keyword for each account holder. Whenever a message begins with your chosen keyword, (eg. Key), the message is automatically routed to your account. Your subscribers will therefore have to begin all message intended for you with your keyword. (eg. Key this is a test from me. How are you.)


Question: Can I send messages to people who send messages to my short code via the short code connection?

Answer: Anyone sending a message to your short code automatically receives a reply message known as an auto-reply informing them that their message has been received on your account. Note that the first auto-reply is not charged to your SMSGH account. However, all subscequent replies are charged at our standard bulk SMS rates.


Question: Can I switch over from a shared short code to a dedicated short code anytime?

Answer: Yes you can. But you will have to have generated enough SMS traffic to enable SMSGH secure a dedicated short code for you. Requests are however subject to network approval.


Question: What is the difference between a dedicated short code and a semi-dedicated short code?

Answer: Not much. They both work the same except with a dedicated short code you are the only user. No one else will use the short code while your SMSGH account is active. However a semi-dedicated short code has others using it as a shared short code and access it via an assigned keyword.

Question: How long will it take to set-up a short code after payment?

Answer: It depends. For shared short codes that are already available on our gateway, it take a few minutes to set-up. This is the same for semi-dedicated short codes. However for dedicated short codes it may take up to 3 months to set-up. Note that in all cases, set-up is subject to approval from mobile networks. In cases where you intend to engage mobile subscribers in a text-and-win campaign you will have to obtain additional approval from the Ghana Gaming Commission and/or National Lottery Authority.
